Raising Healthy and Natural Children in a Toxic World

Chronic Illness on the Rise

Parents today have more food choices than ever before, and while this may be convenient, navigating healthy options can be tricky. The good news is you’re not alone! Eating properly and getting enough physical activity during childhood is not only necessary for proper growth and development, but creating these good habits early on will help your child create a healthy future.

According to the CDC, a healthy lifestyle during childhood will help reduce the risk of developing chronic illnesses in adulthood including:

-High blood pressure
-Heart disease
-Diabetes
-Cancer
-Osteoporosis
-Iron deficiency
-Dental caries (cavities)

A poor diet has many negative consequences including:

-Intake of too many calories which increases the risk of becoming overweight and obese
-Increased risk of lung, esophageal, stomach, colorectal, and prostate cancers
-Undernutrition leading to cognitive development and school performance

Promoting Lifelong Health

The World Health Organization defined health as, “A state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease.”

Do you know the recommended amount of physical activity for your child? Children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years should get a minimum of 60 minutes (1 hour) of physical activity every day. Activities throughout the week should include moderate to vigorous-intensity aerobic activity, muscle-strengthening, and bone-strengthening physical activity.

Does your child:
-Perform poorly in school?
-Show poor cognitive performance?
-Have trouble staying on-task?

Numerous research studies show improved academic achievement with adequate daily physical activity, and yet, unfortunately, many children do not meet physical activity requirements in school.

This means it’s up to you to make up the difference!

Finding fun ways for the family to be physically active together promotes a healthy lifestyle while providing quality time to spend together.
